Arsenal must avoid the virus of "negativity"

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has said that last season's home lost to Swansea killed Arsenal's title hopes and led to a "virus" of negativity among fans.

The 2-1 loss in March, which followed a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United, left Arsenal six points down from the champions Leicester city.

The gunners will face Swansea this Saturday at Emirates Stadium.

"I must say that the negativity comes very quickly," said the Frenchman, 66.

"It is a virus that travels very quickly and goes away very slowly."

Thierry Henry, the Arsenal's record goalscorer, said he had never seen the club's fans as angry as during the defeat by Swansea.

Arsenal are third in the Premier League table 2points behind leaders Manchester City.

"We have reduced distance with the top teams. We have to continue to get to the next level.

"Fans are part of our game and they have the right to be happy, not to be happy. My job is to focus on my job and trying to make them happy."

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger spent his first free international break training on his own at the club's Carrington Head quarter.

Jose Mourinho did not include Bastain to United's first-team squad, the 32-year-old German World Cup winner hasn't been included in Warren Joyce's reserve team group either and has cut a lonely figure jogging or going to the gym alone.

Schweinsteiger played his final game for Germany on August 31 but that decision hasn't softened Mourinho's stance towards him, the Portuguese preferring instead to call up youngsters Matty Willock and Ro-Shaun Williams to first-team training to boost numbers and help on tactical work.
